Today, I got everything set up to go back to school on post. I had almost forgotten what a huge hassle it all is...haha. They don't try to make it easy on you one bit. But, at least it's all set up (hopefully..) and classes start on Aug 16th. They are night classes which is both cool and sucky because nights are the only time when John is home. I need a degree that I can actually use, though...so I think this will turn out okay. Although it seems crazy, I'm sure, to finish up a bachelor's only to start another degree (an associates, actually)...it's just impossible to get a job unless you are specialized in something, like nursing. And I was never even really interested in that bachelor's degree anyway...I just kind of did it cause that's what I thought I was supposed to do and it was a pretty easy degree to finish. I have thought for a long time that I would do it totally different if I could go back again and so I kind of feel like that's what I'm getting to do now.
Other than that, I've just been getting all of this redeployment stuff together for second platoon in our company. For anyone who doesn't know, redeployment is basically the transfer of a unit from one place to another - in this case, from overseas to stateside. So we have been busy gearing up for that - planning the homecoming ceremony, the welcome home party and everything in between (gifts, linens for single soldiers, etc.). Hopefully 2nd platoon is happy with the way they are welcomed home...I know they weren't too thrilled with the way they were sent off (we had a different commander and FRG leader at the time) so we are trying to set things right, in a sense. I'm nervous about how it's going to turn out, though. We have been working hard on a lot of stuff and it would suck for everyone to end up disappointed anyway.
Also, John is fixing to get moved to a new company. Still here at FLW and same Battalion...just different company. He'll be moving to the 512th MP Company to take over as their Rear Detachment Commander for the remainder of their deployment. To explain a little - when a unit deploys (company, battalion, brigade, etc.) they leave behind a sort of skeleton crew and the Rear Detachment Commander is in charge of those people. He/she acts as commander here...they stay in contact with the commander and unit down range and also stay in contact with the families and help get information to them. He's not too super thrilled considering HHD is fixing to deploy and he would rather do that...but there's not much he can do about it at this point. I have mixed feelings...I don't want him to deploy, but I also can't help but want what he wants. *sigh*
That's about all I have I guess...I have a leadership meeting with my FRG leaders on Thursday. I'm anxious to see how that turns out considering everything that's been going on...which I will probably write more about at a later date, when it's not so fresh.
1ove.
